It is adjacently situated to the Udawalawa Reservoir and located on the Western border of Udawalawa National Park expanding in a land area of 33,000 hectares.

Elephant Transit Home is called Elephant Kraal which meant in Sinhala word “Ath Gala” or Elephant orphanage. The main objective of it is to bring up baby elephants that who strayed from the herd until they would be in a position to live along or to depend themselves and five years of nursing period and then will be released to the wild wherever their natural habitat.

These transit homes are very lovely places to visit because feeding on a calves once in every three hours is a very rare vision. The calves become frenzy if the feeding times are delayed further more heavy hearted cry of baby elephants could be heard and charges of calves on milk could also be seen and the sight of such incident is very uncommon which could be seen in the jungles.
