Maduwanwela ancestral home or walawwa is a marvellous feat of architectural heritage of a bygone days. The students of universities in Sri Lanka are allowed to select this walawwa as the assignment topic for their MA(Master of Arts).
The mansion is situated in the town of Kolonne lying between Embilipitiya and Suriyawewa as an area of blessed by the mother nature being visible paddy fields and tall trees that spread out across the plains enrich with tranquil beauty which fascinates all visitors eyes.
Its is possessed a vast extension of land area as to be said 82,000 acres known as monor in Sinhala word Nindagama. In the glorious period of walawwa it had been consisted 121 rooms and 21 inner gardens but today there are 40 rooms visible with 7 inner gardens and also declared as historical and archaeological site.
Here we refer an awesome inspiring creation which being tile paved floors that have been laid in a mosaic style with chipped tiles brought from Netherlands although the tiles were laid in 1905 still they are in excellent condition.
